A Windy Day, A Wonderful Family, and Another Reason I Love Being a 30A Photographer
Some families become more than clients—they become familiar faces you genuinely look forward to seeing.
I've known this sweet family since I first moved to 30A, and every time I photograph them, I'm reminded why I love what I do. Watching families grow, change, and create new memories together is one of the greatest joys of being a photographer.
The day of their session, Mother Nature had other plans. The wind was absolutely wild. The beach was beautiful as always, but the gusts were strong enough to send hair flying in every direction and make everyone work a little harder for those perfect portraits.
Instead of fighting the conditions, we adapted.
We started our session at a nearby park where the trees provided some protection from the wind. The kids had room to play, everyone relaxed, and we captured some beautiful family moments before heading toward the beach.
One thing I've learned in my 27 years as a photographer is that flexibility is everything. Sometimes the best sessions don't go exactly as planned, and that's okay. Great photographs are about connection, not perfect conditions.
After spending some time at the park, we decided to give the beach a try. Thankfully, the wind settled just enough for us to make it work. The Gulf provided a stunning backdrop, the light was beautiful, and this family brought all the warmth and joy needed to create images they'll treasure for years to come.
Looking through the photographs afterward, you would never know how windy it was. What you see instead is a family that genuinely enjoys being together—laughing, hugging, and making memories along Florida's Emerald Coast.
These are the sessions that remind me why family photography matters. Years from now, nobody will remember how windy the day was. They'll remember the vacation, the time spent together, and the photographs that captured this season of life.
To this wonderful family, thank you for continuing to trust me with your memories. It has been such a privilege getting to know you since my move to 30A, and I always love seeing your smiling faces in front of my camera.
If you're planning family photos on 30A, Santa Rosa Beach, Miramar Beach, or Destin, don't worry if the conditions aren't perfect. Sometimes the most meaningful memories happen when we simply embrace the moment and make the best of whatever the day brings.
